Creative Works made by Real People, not Gen AI

Declaration of Public Policy on
Authentic Human Creativity
Here is how Made By People (MBP) values authenticity and uplifts creatives committed to using ethical technologies that retain the human element in their work:
1. MBP has a blanket generative AI ban. This has always been the focal point when vetting for promotions, event participation, collaborations, recommendations and direct involvement with the MBP community.
2. MBP’s goal is not to ostracize anyone who uses generative AI unknowingly or out of fear that they have no choice, but to:
• Elevate and celebrate those who don't use it and don't promote it.
• Inform those who may not know they are using it.
• Give active users a fair shot at seeing they don't need it in their workflows.
• Foster a community that makes the above possible and meaningful.
3. For technologies related to (but not directly) generative AI, additional vetting may be required. MBP looks at these criteria:
• Does the technology use or interact with an LLM (large language model) or was it created by / with one as we know today? Why LLMs specifically:
1. The technology removes a meaningful level of human agency from the creative process.
2. The technology actively suppresses real artists' voices and creativity both directly and indirectly.
3. The technology actively infringes on IP.
4. The technology actively harms the environment.
• If not an LLM, is it ethical? MBP only supports tools and services involving technologies that operate with harm reduction in mind for the creative community and the world at large.
As technology, perspectives, and knowledge grow, MBP uses these principles to cultivate a space that is supportive not destructive. Technology should be made for people, not in spite of them. The Made By People Team 💚❤️💙
